The Optimist Creed

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. Vision Statement: Optimist International will be recognized world-wide as an organization of people committed to optimism and self-development for the improvement of youth and community. Optimist Clubs are dedicated to “Bringing Out the Best in Kids” and do their part through community service projects. Since each Club is autonomous and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth of their area in any way they see fit. Optimist Clubs see a need in their community and react to it. Optimists strive to live up to their name and maintain an upbeat attitude, which they try to pass along to the children they serve. The words of The Optimist Creed are well known to Optimist volunteers and beyond. The creed gives volunteers a focus for personal improvement as they work to better the world around them. Optimist Mission Statement Optimist International’s mission is to foster an optimistic way of life, through a network of optimists, dedicated to the full development of their potential in order to provide ever-expanding service to youth, the community and the world. Teacher of the Year

Teacher is chosen from nominations submitted to club. This teacher is someone we feel has gone above and beyond to help those she/he can.

Respect for Law

Is someone we feel has gone above and beyond his/her call of duty. Face of Optimism – a scholarship award given to a senior student who has overcome various difficult individual or educational obstacles to reach his/her high school graduation.

Oratorical Contest

Is a scholarship award received if won by preparing and presenting a 4 to 5 minute speech on a topic assigned by Optimist International.

Senior Essay

Is a scholarship Award received if chosen by writing an essay on the specific topic. If you are a graduating senior and would like to also be considered for the local Optimist senior scholarships given please also include the following:

This unique program was created by Toni Harvey to provide Christmas for underprivileged children with a unique twist where we take the children shopping for their families to teach children the gift of giving. We secretly buy for these children while they are shopping for their families, so they also receive in the gift of giving. The joy on these children’s faces as they buy for their families is priceless. These children will enjoy a day full of fun with breakfast, pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, shopping, lunch, and games.
